I’m not talking about stock markets, the Limbo or being a bad person. I’m talking about Geography.
If you’ve been reading this for a while, you may recall that about 7 years ago, Joan and I went to Africa, and in that trip we visited the Cape of Good Hope. Close to, but not quite the southernmost tip of the African Continent. It got its name for the treacherous journey that sailors would undertake to navigate that dangerous section where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Swift currents, rocks and very heavy surf made that a journey definitely in need of good hope.
You may also know that I’ve been working out of Florida for the past 6 weeks. Yes, I’ve been diligent about my daily long walks, even on the days where I have played golf. But this week, we actually took our first vacation while in Florida.
Yesterday we hopped on the high speed catamaran from Fort Myers to Key West. The ride was a somewhat boring 4 hours in 2-4 foot swells. Nothing in sight until we got close to Key West where everything looked as tropical as any Caribbean Island that I’ve ever visited. Nothing quite turns me on as much as that aqua blue green water
While here, we visited the famous southernmost tip of the USA in Key West. Not a very exciting sight, but pretty cool nonetheless. The hardest part was walking past hundreds of bars, where happy hour starts as early as 7 AM. I’m not a day drinker (Except for our Jimmy Fund Golf Classic), so frankly it wasn’t that tempting but it sure was interesting to see the crowds.
While I like Key West, maybe even love Key West… I’ll probably return to civilization. Our return boat ride is Thursday evening, and I do plan to get aboard as of this moment. Although, I must admit… a little Gilligan’s Island mishap where our three hour tour back to Fort Myers gets sidetracked to an uncharted island wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
