At the beginning of June, my wife Deidre and I finally moved into our first home in Franklin! Our entire home buying process lasted approximately six months. This included hours searching through Zillow and MLS listings, spending every weekend at open houses, making offers on the homes we deemed worthy, and having quite a few of those offers rejected.  Finally, one of those offers was accepted, and our dream of being homeowners was about to be a reality!  We did agree to a leaseback, so after the mortgage and paperwork were all completed, we still had to wait another two months before we could finally move in. Let me tell you, those two months felt like forever!  Finally, we made it to moving day, and we could leave our tiny apartment behind and start this next chapter in our new home.

We had an amazing realtor that helped us through the entire process.  He was described by other agents as “politely persistent” on our behalf, and this persistence was instrumental in our offer eventually being accepted.  He really made a difference by educating us in the homebuying process, answering all our questions, and calming our nerves as we waited to hear back regarding offers.

Our moving date was an adventure in itself! Thankfully, I rented the bigger moving truck which fit all our furniture from our apartment in one trip and the rest of our clothes and wedding gifts that were sitting at my parents’ house in another trip. We had some friends help us pack up our apartment, but they couldn’t help to move us into our house. As a result, I moved just about everything myself, with some assistance from my dad. I was sore for several days afterwards!

The first item on our to-do list was installing hardwood floors in the second-floor bedrooms. The floors turned out great and we are very pleased we installed those first. Right now, we have moved into the bedrooms, unpacked and filled most of the kitchen, and even have our new tv and couch in our beautiful den! While we still have lots to unpack and eventually update, we are pleased to be homeowners and a place to call our own!
