Over the past year, I have been fully immersed in preparing for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® exam. While I was focused on studying, a very special someone was secretly planning a surprise trip to Italy. Little did I know that just days after passing the exam, what I thought was a celebratory getaway would become something even more unforgettable—being asked to marry the man of my dreams on a private chartered boat along the Amalfi Coast.

Each morning began with a mouthwatering breakfast spread at our charming hotel in Praiano—everything from fresh pastries, seasonal fruit, and eggs to fresh juices and cappuccinos—all enjoyed while watching boats (and yachts) head into Positano. As big foodies, we couldn’t help but start thinking about our next meal each time we wrapped up the current one. If you’ve ever been to Italy, you’ll understand our obsession with the freshly baked bread paired with olive oil and balsamic, caprese salad, handmade pasta, seafood, local wines, pastries and desserts, and the quintessential post-dinner treat: limoncello.

Our days were spent relaxing at the stunning beaches (after a hike down roughly 400 steps, of course), touring the breathtaking coastline by boat, admiring the incredible architecture and landscapes, and sipping on Aperol Spritzes. Gabe even planned a private tour in a vintage powder blue Fiat—which turned out to be a perfect moment for an impromptu Italian-style engagement photo shoot.

After months of intense exam prep and sacrificing time with loved ones, the special trip to the Amalfi Coast was a sweet reminder of how meaningful it is to pause and truly enjoy time with the people who matter most. A heartfelt thank you to my now-fiancé for planning the trip of my dreams. Turns out I have a built-in travel agent— and I get to spend the rest of my life with him. Lucky me! We’re already talking about going back for our honeymoon—unless you can recommend somewhere that will top the Amalfi Coast!
