By the time the end of December rolls around many people have had enough of Holiday Music.  I can see why, especially if you work in retail or some other venue where the music rolls on 24/7 with playlists that repeat songs regularly. Not me, in fact, I used to get a little sad when the holiday music stopped. I find it particularly heart warming when a little child not yet able to complete a sentence can blast out a verse of Frosty the Snowman.

The music itself may not be the most sophisticated, but it sure is catchy.  I am drawn to two types of holiday tunes. First are the classics, including Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Burl Ives, Andy Williams and Johnny Mathis.  The second genre that gets me going is the rock n roll Christmas Tunes.  From the copies of Jingle Bells and the other classics to the home-grown songs like Chuck Berry’s Run Rudolph Run, The Kinks Father Christmas and the Waitresses Christmas Wrapping; they all bring a smile to my face. “You forgot cranberries too”?

But when it comes to my favorite, I’d have to say my winner is from the Boss, Bruce Springsteen.  His rendition of Santa Claus is Coming to Town is fantastic.  It rocks out pretty hard and has a wonderful crisp segment dominated by the late Big Man, Clarence Clemons and his roaring saxophone. Perhaps another reason why this one sticks with me is that I got to see it live at the Music Hall in Boston in December of 1975.  I get chills just thinking about it.

How about you?  Everyone has a favorite or two.
