Summer is in full swing, which means the local town carnivals are starting to pop up and my inner childhood rollercoaster-junkie is filling with nostalgic excitement. I remember growing up in the 90’s when my dad worked for Stop & Shop Technology, and much to my delight they had a summer Employee Appreciation Day at Riverside (now Six Flags New England). My brothers and I would run from ride to ride, coaster to coaster, waiting for dad to catch up… until we were dragged out and fell fast asleep on the ride home.
This past weekend, after exhausting our list of activities (just before lunch, mind you) I went to the google machine to see if any carnivals or kids’ activities sounded appealing. Fortunately for us, we found something in the town next door, and both girls were excited to go on a few rides. None of us had been to this carnival before – so we were unsure of what to expect. With time not on our side, we blindly put the kids in the car and headed over.
Much to our surprise, the Needham Town Carnival was a perfect fit for what we wanted. The girls showed just as much excitement as if they were in Disney World. Our oldest, Natalie, was a little more reserved while Holly (who is just like her dad) was busy seeking out adrenaline – they wound up striking the perfect balance together on a good number of rides.
With all the joy we saw this past weekend, it may become a summertime staple for us to explore the nearby carnivals. If you have any other kid-friendly activities to share – pass them along!
Until next time…
