The work we do for families is unique in many ways and we field all sorts of questions. One of these questions sparked a conversation that hit me particularly hard recently, and it has stuck with me ever since. I received a call from a client who was headed on an unplanned ski trip and wanted to run a few things by the team. While I was very excited for him, I had to ask why this specific trip, as he’d gone on a similar one only a few weeks prior. After laughing at my question (and reminding me of my own words to use his wealth in ways that bring him joy) he shared a powerful line from his close friend’s prayer card who had just passed away from ALS.
…’He believed that saying ‘yes’ opened doors to opportunities that might otherwise be missed, bringing joy, connection and meaning into our lives.’ …
Our planning team works to empower each and every client to enjoy the wealth they have created, feeling comfortable and secure in their financial choices. Yes, we encourage them to enjoy it in an efficient way, and we always want to have the best investment plan, cash flow management, tax plan, estate implementation, and so on – but why are we doing it? Do you feel empowered to say “Yes” to whatever gives you joy? Let that sink in.
Inspired by the idea, I said ‘yes’ when our niece called begging us to have the girls join them on their Disney World adventure. That would make for TWO trips to Disney less than a month apart, as we had already planned a separate one for early March…it sounded crazy at the time. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to say ‘yes’ to family trips like that (and how much longer will our oldest niece want us to join her trips!?)
We hope the next time you get asked to do something that brings you happiness, that our team has given you the ability and comfort to say ‘yes’ as well.
Until next time ….
