FINALLY, my youngest brother Nate got married. Affectionately known to our two girls as “Uncle Nate”, he is the playful, fun loving, and jovial uncle. For those who do not know, I come from a large, blended family. I am 1 of 4 brothers (I am #3) and I have 5 step-siblings. Nate is the youngest of all the siblings and I am the second youngest.
This wedding was extra special because I have a very close relationship with Nate (we both brought up the rear of the family after all!). The wedding was at Granite Links in Quincy, MA and the day was quite literally, picture perfect. The weather was amazing, a sunny day without a cloud in the sky and a brilliant sunset. The icing on the (wedding) cake was that the neighboring town of Milton had their fireworks show that same evening, and we all had a spectacular view from Granite Link’s elevated deck. Every Dad on the deck made the same corny Dad joke “look what I arranged for everyone, how good am I!” Unfortunately, I was in that band of bad joke tellers so please don’t hold that against me.
The kicker for me that day, personally, was watching my 2.5-year-old daughter Natalie walk down the aisle as a flower girl holding the sign “Let’s get ready to party.” I hope that is not a sign of what is to come in her teenage and college years …but we have a lot of time between now and then.
The wedding was a great time to reconnect with family and friends who I have not seen in some time. I had a blast on the dance floor with my wife Ashley, which we also haven’t done in quite a while. It was a good reminder how precious and fast time is. The ‘baby’ in our family is now a married man! Cheers to Uncle Nate and (officially) Auntie Heather!
Until next time…
