No, I don’t mean the winter holidays – I’m talking about the start of football season, which has finally arrived! We have patiently waited over six months for tomorrow to mercifully bring the first game of the NFL season. The game that gathers families together (with beer and wings, or another favorite gameday food) in front of the TV  to enjoy each others’ company, albeit competitively at times.

There’s no better way that I enjoy spending my Sundays during the fall and winter than crowding around the TVs (yes, plural) for seven hours of non-stop football action with my loved ones. Typically, we have one TV dutifully set on the Patriots game, since most of us are lifelong New England Patriot fans. The other TV is set on the Redzone channel to ensure we never miss a touchdown that could impact our fantasy football games. I, being the foodie that I am, typically cook one of many dips or other snacks for everyone to chow down on as we watch the games.

I was ecstatic to win both of my fantasy football leagues last year and look forward to defending my title this season. See below for a picture of the trophy we pass around from champion to champion every year (it’s no Lombardi, but it sure feels like one.) One of my favorite components of fantasy football is the draft and all the research that goes into it, only to have everything thrown out in an unpredictable frenzy once it begins. Similar to financial planning, and best said by Iron Mike Tyson, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

In the end, watching football games and playing fantasy football is fun, but it’s just another way of bringing my circle together. A method of connecting I very much take pleasure in and look forward to year after year. May the draft gods be ever in your favor.
